National Grid

Asked by Claire CoutinhoConservativeDepartment for Energy Security and Net ZeroTabled Answered 8 June 2026UIN 5433

The question

To ask the Secretary of State for Energy Security and Net Zero, what action he is taking to ensure frequency stability within the GB electricity grid.

Answered by Michael Shanks

The National Energy System Operator (NESO) is responsible for operating the Great Britain electricity system and maintaining system frequency within statutory limits. This responsibility is established through NESO's licence obligations, which are regulated by Ofgem. Looking at the past year as an example, frequency stability has always remained within statutory limits.
