Industrial Injuries Disablement Benefit: Silicosis

Asked by Ayoub KhanIndependentDepartment for Work and PensionsTabled Answered 22 June 2026UIN 5635

The question

To ask the Secretary of State for Work and Pensions, whether he plans to fast-track Industrial Injuries Disablement Benefit claims for workers diagnosed with advanced silicosis in line with arrangements for mesothelioma sufferers.

Answered by Sir Stephen Timms

The Department recognises the serious impact that silicosis can have on those affected and their families. We are carefully considering the recommendations from the Industrial Injuries Advisory Council on silicosis, including how best to identify and prioritise claims where there is a clinical need. Any changes to current arrangements will be considered in light of that work.
