Bus Services: Concessions

Asked by James McMurdockIndependentDepartment for TransportTabled Answered 8 June 2026UIN 5652

The question

To ask the Secretary of State for Transport, with reference to the press release entitled Cost of living boost with free bus travel for children and targeted food tariff cuts, published on 20 May 2026, what discussions she has had with local authorities and bus operators in Essex on implementation of the free bus travel scheme.

Answered by Simon Lightwood

The Department has engaged with Local Transport Authorities (LTAs) including Essex County Council, and bus operators through national communications and wider stakeholder engagement, and has invited feedback from them to inform the development of the scheme.

The Department will continue to engage with all LTAs and bus operators as delivery arrangements are developed, including through planned forums and direct discussions.
