Political Parties: Cryptocurrencies
The question
To ask the Secretary of State for Housing, Communities and Local Government, pursuant to the Answer of 29 May 2026 to Question 2791 on Political Parties: Cryptocurrencies, whether the Government has issued any guidance to political parties on the treatment of cryptocurrency donations received before 25 March 2026 that predate the proposed moratorium.
Answered by Samantha Dixon
The moratorium on political donations made using cryptoassets applies to donations made on or after 25 March 2026. The Electoral Commission has issued advice on cryptoasset donations, including details relevant to the announced moratorium, setting out how recipients should assess permissibility and comply with reporting requirements, and making clear that it is an offence to knowingly accept or seek to disguise an impermissible donation.
