Radicalism

Asked by Sir James CleverlyConservativeHome OfficeTabled Answered 10 June 2026UIN 6411

The question

To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department, with reference to the Answer of 25 March 2026, to Question 121395, on Radicalism, what steps she is taking to update the engagement principles.

Answered by Sarah Jones

As set out in ‘Protecting What Matters’, published 9th March 2026, we will be updating and embedding the engagement principles across government to ensure a consistent understanding of extremism, which is essential to tackling it effectively. We are reinforcing this through clearer guidance and improved training, helping those on the frontline to recognise extremism and the different extremist ideologies which underpin it. The engagement principles will assist public bodies to not confer legitimacy, funding or influence on extremist groups. We will support due diligence capabilities to ensure we can take evidence-based decisions about engagement which are in line with the updated principles.
