Birmingham City Council: Standards
The question
To ask the Secretary of State for Housing, Communities and Local Government, what assessment has he made of the adequacy of the governance of Birmingham City Council following the May 2026 local elections, and whether he plans to amend his Best Value intervention.
Answered by Alison McGovern
The Council has a new administration in place, and Commissioners will continue to support the Council on its improvement journey towards complying with the Best Value Duty. My department will continue to engage regularly with the Council and Commissioners, as is normal for all councils under intervention, alongside receiving regular updates on progress from Commissioners, which are published on gov.uk.
