Asked by Mr Richard HoldenConservativeDepartment for TransportTabled Answered 18 June 2026UIN 6811

The question

To ask the Secretary of State for Transport, pursuant to the Answer of 1 June 2026 to Question 3118, what assessment her Department has made of the potential impact of the Maritime and Coastguard Agency not tracking correspondence response times on the fishing industry; and what steps she is taking to ensure that correspondence relating to commercial fishing safety and licensing is answered within standard civil service customer service targets.

Answered by Keir Mather

It should be noted that fishing licencing does not fall under the Maritime and Coastguard Agency’s remit. This is covered by Defra and the Marine Management Organisation. The Maritime and Coastguard Agency deals with fishing safety.

The MCA's Key Performance Indicators in relation to public correspondence are set out each year in their Business Plan, and performance each year is published in their Annual Report and accounts. The Maritime and Coastguard Agency seeks to provide a quality service to their customers which is monitored through their Customer Service Manager network and regular engagement with the fishing community.
