Hospitals: Construction
The question
To ask the Secretary of State for Health and Social Care, what assessment he has made of the applicability of Hospital 2.0 design principles to smaller NHS facilities, such as (a) community hospitals, (b) primary care facilities and (c) outpatient centres.
Answered by Karin Smyth
The New Hospital Programme is currently focused on applying Hospital 2.0, the standardised approach to new hospital construction, developed with clinical and operational staff, to schemes within its Plan for Implementation. Schemes in Wave 1 and subsequent waves will be expected to align with Hospital 2.0, subject to the requirements of individual schemes.
No estimate has been made of the number of future National Health Service projects expected to use Hospital 2.0 designs. The programme is, however, considering how this standardised approach, and the lessons learned from it, could be applied more widely across the NHS estate, including community hospitals, primary care facilities, and outpatient centres.
