To ask the Secretary of State for Energy Security and Net Zero, what estimate he has made of the proportion of UK electricity generation that will be dependent on weather-related sources under the pathway assumed for Carbon Budget 7.

Total electricity generation is estimated to be between 540 to 610 TWh in 2040. The exact mix is subject to further policy and strategy development for the 2040s (including the next delivery plan) as well as private investment decisions. The government is committed to delivering clean power because it gives us energy security, protects households and businesses from global price shocks, helps tackle the climate crisis and creates hundreds of thousands of jobs across Britain. A clean power system will be reliant on a range of technologies, including nuclear alongside a full range of renewables. The UK’s diverse power mix reduces dependence on one generation source, ensuring security of supply in a range of conditions.
