To ask the Secretary of State for Energy Security and Net Zero, what progress he has made on meeting the UK’s net zero targets by 2050.

The government is committed to meeting its carbon budgets and net zero by 2050, as required by the Climate Change Act. Net zero is the route to lower bills, warmer homes, energy security, cleaner air, good jobs and tackling the climate crisis.
The UK has more than halved its greenhouse gas emissions, having cut them by 54% between 1990 and 2025, while growing the economy by over 85% in the same period. The UK over-achieved against the first, second and third carbon budgets.
The Carbon Budget and Growth Delivery Plan, published in October 2025, sets out how the UK will continue to reduce emissions in a way that lowers bills and secures good jobs. It details how the cross-government package will enable the UK to meet Carbon Budgets 4-6.
