Students: Community Relations
The question
To ask the Secretary of State for Education, with reference to the answer of 29 April 2026 to Question HL16548 on Community Relations, what assessment she has made of the inclusion of the National Union of Students.
Answered by Josh MacAlister
Question HL16548 refers to the development of a cohesion charter in collaboration with the University of Salford and the National Union of Students (NUS).
The cohesion charter will be co-created with students to ensure it focuses on what matters most to them. As the representative body of university and college students across the UK, the NUS is an important partner to facilitate focus groups with students and disseminate the charter across student unions.
Following a period of disengagement, the government decided to officially reengage the NUS in recognition of its commitment to implementing the recommendations of the Tuck report. Government officials join meetings of the Advisory Group overseeing implementation of the Tuck report at the NUS and continue to monitor progress.
