Iron and Steel: Prices
The question
To ask the Secretary of State for Business and Trade, whether he has conducted an impact assessment of the impact of cost inflation of steel on UK manufacturers of fabricated products.
Answered by Chris McDonald
The steel trade measure is designed to strike a careful balance between supporting the UK steel industry and maintaining access to essential inputs for UK manufacturers.
The Government held extensive engagement with producers and downstream users of steel to inform development of the new trade measure, including a Call for Evidence in July 2025. We will continue engaging with companies across the supply chain and will monitor implementation of the measure. This will include conducting a review after twelve months to ensure it remains effective and that the balance is right for both producers and downstream users.
