Council Tax

Asked by Manuela PerteghellaLiberal DemocratMinistry of Housing, Communities and Local GovernmentTabled Answered 16 June 2026UIN 7610

The question

To ask the Secretary of State for Housing, Communities and Local Government, whether he plans to reassess council tax banding for properties on an individual basis.

Answered by Alison McGovern

The Valuation Office will be conducting a targeted valuation exercise to identify properties in scope of the High Value Council Tax Surcharge. Current Council Tax bands will not be revalued and will still apply. The Government is committed to ensuring the council tax system is fair for taxpayers and local authorities and will continue to keep council tax under review. There are currently no plans for a council tax revaluation.
