Middle East: International Humanitarian Law

Asked by Iqbal MohamedIndependentMinistry of DefenceTabled Answered 16 June 2026UIN 7731

The question

To ask the Secretary of State for Defence, what safeguards are in place to ensure that intelligence gathered by UK assets in the Middle East is not used in operations that breach international humanitarian law.

Answered by Louise Sandher-Jones

It is the Government's longstanding position to not comment on intelligence operations and sharing arrangements to protect operational security. The Ministry of Defence only conducts activity where we are satisfied it would comply with applicable domestic and international law.
