General Practitioners

Asked by Sarah PochinReform UKDepartment of Health and Social CareTabled Answered 19 June 2026UIN 7871

The question

To ask the Secretary of State for Health and Social Care, what the average cost is of a cancelled GP appointment.

Answered by Stephen Kinnock

The information requested is not held by the Department.

When appointments are cancelled or missed, practices may use that time to see other patients, complete administrative work, or undertake training, so the impact on practice capacity cannot be separately quantified.

General practices are independent businesses contracted by the National Health Service to provide services, and they are responsible for managing their own appointment booking and cancellation processes.
