Civil Society

Asked by James McMurdockIndependentDepartment for Culture, Media and SportTabled Answered 16 June 2026UIN 7957

The question

To ask the Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport, whether she plans to publish a long-term strategy for supporting the charitable and voluntary sector.

Answered by Stephanie Peacock

The Civil Society Covenant was launched in July 2025 as a long-term plan to reset the relationship between government and civil society. The Covenant embodies the ambition of this Government to recognise voluntary, community and social enterprise organisations as valued partners. Charities are a vital part of this partnership across civil society.

The new Civil Society Council, which includes representatives from across the voluntary, community and social enterprise sector, provides a central forum to identify opportunities for civil society to play a greater role in the design and delivery of policies and services.
