Erasmus+ Programme
The question
To ask the Secretary of State for Education, with reference to the answer of 23 March 2026 to Question 119909 on Erasmus+ programme, whether the British Council forecasts more inbound HE student mobilities in the new Erasmus+ programme than outbound HE student mobilities; and what the forecast is for the number of inbound mobilities on re-association.
Answered by Josh MacAlister
The British Council is set to become the National Agency for Erasmus+, responsible for delivering the programme in the UK. In this role, it will support UK participants to access Erasmus+ funding and is not involved in managing inbound participants.
In 2018/19, there were around 31,000 inbound higher education (HE) student mobilities via the Erasmus+ Programme. There were also approximately 16,000 outbound HE student mobilities in the same year. The department expects there to be a higher number of mobilities on reassociation, given the expansion of the programme.
