Places of Worship Renewal Fund: Wales

Asked by Ruth JonesLabourDepartment for Culture, Media and SportTabled Answered 16 June 2026UIN 8128

The question

To ask the Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport, what conversations has she had with the Welsh Government about the devolved successor to the Places of Worship Renewal Fund.

Answered by Ian Murray

Heritage policy is devolved. The Minister for Heritage met Jack Sargeant MS, at the time the Welsh Minister for Culture, Skills and Social Partnership, on 23rd March. The discussion focused on the impact of closing the Listed Places of Worship Grant Scheme in Wales.

Following the meeting, DCMS officials are in contact with Cadw, to share relevant historic data, and information on the Places of Worship Renewal Fund criteria to support the Welsh government should it wish to develop its own capital scheme.
