Undocumented Migrants: Northern Ireland

Asked by Andrew RosindellReform UKNorthern Ireland OfficeTabled Answered 16 June 2026UIN 7996

The question

To ask the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland, what discussions he has had with Cabinet colleagues on reducing illegal immigration from the Republic of Ireland to Northern Ireland.

Answered by Hilary Benn

Reducing illegal immigration, for which the Home Office is primarily responsible, is a priority for this Government. The UK carries out intelligence led operations to target potential abuse of Common Travel Area routes, including between Ireland and Northern Ireland. These matters are discussed between Cabinet colleagues regularly.
