Biodiversity: Ecomomic Situation

Asked by Ruth JonesLabourTreasuryTabled Answered 17 June 2026UIN 8139

The question

To ask the Chancellor of the Exchequer, what assessment she has made of the potential economic risks posed by continued biodiversity loss.

Answered by Lucy Rigby

The Government stands by the Dasgupta Review, concluded under the previous government, that found nature, and the biodiversity that underpins it, sustains our economies, livelihoods, and wellbeing and failing to account for the value of nature undermines productivity, prosperity and long‑term economic stability.

The Treasury continues to strengthen processes for integrating nature into economic and financial decision-making, improving the Green Book in line with emerging evidence and best practice.
