Ports: Finance
The question
To ask the Secretary of State for Transport, whether her Department has identified priority ports where investment in infrastructure could improve both commercial capacity and military mobility.
Answered by Keir Mather
We work closely across government to strengthen our resilience and the overall ports sector. The government supports and enables investment through a strong policy and regulatory framework, while also working in partnership with industry and providing additional investment where there are clear public benefits. For example, through the National Wealth Fund the Government has committed at least £5.8 billion across five priority sectors, including ports, with a £300 million investment in Associated British Ports to support major infrastructure upgrades announced on 3 June.
The Government continues to identify potential opportunities to enhance military mobility and resilience across the entire transport sector. This has already led to partnerships with the transport sector, for example a recent military move utilised commercial ports and transport providers to outload troops from the UK.
