To ask the Chancellor of the Exchequer, with reference to the answer of 8 June 2026, to Question 4140, on Government Departments: Communication, where the 284 staff who are members of the Government Communications Network are in addition to the 44 embedded communicators; and what is the function and work of embedded communicators.

HMRC has 284 communications professionals who are members of the Government Communications Service and work within HMRC’s core Communications directorate. These staff provide strategic communications, media handling, campaign delivery and corporate communications support to help deliver HMRC’s strategic objectives, including improving customer experience and increasing compliance.
In addition, HMRC employs 44 embedded communicators. These are communications professionals who are based within policy, operational or delivery teams, rather than the core Communications function. Embedded communicators support day‑to‑day operational delivery, help ensure communications are aligned with policy and operational priorities, and play a role in improving customer experience. Their roles align with the Government Communication Service definition of embedded communicators.
