Military Aircraft: Training

Asked by Ben Obese-JectyConservativeMinistry of DefenceTabled Answered 16 June 2026UIN 8394

The question

To ask the Secretary of State for Defence, pursuant to the Answer of 8 June 2026 to Question 5091 on Military Aircraft: Training, what mixed reality resources have been integrated into the training pipeline as part of Phase 1 of the Fast Jet Transformation Programme.

Answered by Luke Pollard

The Fast Jet Transformation Programme Phase 1 has upgraded five Texan T1 and six Hawk T2 synthetic training devices. These training devices are used within the fast jet training pipeline as part of Basic Flying Training and Advanced Jet Training and now incorporate virtual reality headsets with a physical cockpit. This allows trainee fast jet pilots to practice circuits, formation flying and low-level navigation in a realistic virtual environment while still interacting with a real cockpit, building the skills they need before they fly live sorties.
