UK Relations with EU: Contributions

Asked by Mike WoodConservativeDepartment for Science, Innovation and TechnologyTabled Answered 19 June 2026UIN 8541

The question

To ask the Secretary of State for Science, Innovation and Technology, whether the Government plans to participate in, or contribute towards, the (a) European Innovation Council Fund and (b) Scaleup Europe Fund.

Answered by Kanishka Narayan

As announced by the Prime Minister on 4 May 2026, the UK Government has agreed to negotiate with the European Commission on potential participation in the equity instruments of the European Innovation Council (EIC) Fund, including the Scaleup Europe Fund. No final decision has been taken. The Government recognises the potential benefits for UK investors and innovators, as well as for strengthening UK-EU ties and supporting shared European ambitions to help the most promising companies scale in Europe. Any decision will be subject to agreeing terms that represent fair value and support UK innovation and growth objectives.
