Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office: Research

Asked by Mike WoodConservativeForeign, Commonwealth and Development OfficeTabled Answered 16 June 2026UIN 8546

The question

To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Affairs, with reference to the publication, FCDO Areas of Research Interest (ARI), of 11 May 2026, paragraph 3.1, for what reason the research uses the metric of gender rather than sex.

Answered by Chris Elmore

I refer the Hon Member to the introduction to the section to which his question refers, which explains the remit of the FCDO's own research portfolio in relation to gender equality, and the attacks on women's rights which form an important part of that work.
