Cabinet Manual

Asked by Alex BurghartConservativeCabinet OfficeTabled Answered 23 June 2026UIN 8596

The question

To ask the Minister for the Cabinet Office, with reference to the written statement of 2 June 2026, HCWS78, on Cabinet Manual, what changes he plans to make to the Cabinet Manual; and whether it will seek to amend any existing conventions where legislation has not changed since the first edition.

Answered by Nick Thomas-Symonds

The Cabinet Manual update will ensure that it reflects the main “laws, conventions and rules that affect the operation and procedures of the Government”. Updates will be needed to reflect changes and developments since its publication in 2011.

We will seek feedback from parliamentary committees on the draft text later this year.
