Uk Research and Innovation: Environment Protection
The question
To ask the Secretary of State for Science, Innovation and Technology, with reference to Table 2 of the UKRI Budget Allocations explainer of December 2025, how much of the £2,308m allocated to 'Wider Priorities' over the Spending Review period is earmarked for "climate adaption, environment and resilience".
Answered by Kanishka Narayan
DSIT secured £58.5 billion for R&D over the next four years at the 2025 Spending Review, including record funding for UK Research and Innovation (UKRI) of £38.6 billion. UKRI will also be a key delivery partner for departments across government, delivering strategic programmes to support the industrial strategy, delivery of the five national missions, and develop the technologies of the future. This includes a priority programme focussed on climate adaptation, environment and resilience within the Wider Priorities allocation. While delivery planning will continue on an ongoing basis, with UKRI managing its budgets dynamically over the SR period to respond to and capture emerging opportunities, UKRI anticipates initial allocations for Wider Priorities to be available by autumn 2026.
