The question

To ask the Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport, with reference to the policy paper entitled Protecting What Matters: Towards a more confident, cohesive, and resilient United Kingdom, updated 28 April 2026, whether the Charity Commission's powers will include (a) suspending trustees and (b) removing charitable status from those connected with extremism.

As part of the Government’s action plan for social cohesion we have announced that the Charity Commission for England and Wales’ powers will be extended to tackle extremist abuse of charities.

This includes strengthening the Charity Commission’s ability to suspend trustees and close down charities.
