Driving Tests
The question
To ask the Secretary of State for Transport, pursuant to the Answer of 8 June 2026 to Question 4297 on Driving Tests: Offices, which driving test centres were (a) added to, (b) removed from and (c) ceased conducting practical car driving tests between 1 July 2024 and 1 June 2026; and on what date each such change took effect.
Answered by Simon Lightwood
As of 1 June 2026, when compared to the driving test centres (DTC) in operation as of 1 July 2024, there were 12 test centres that had either opened, closed or ceased conducting car practical driving tests. These are shown in the table below and includes when these changes took place. Where DTCs were closed, or ceased conducting car practical tests, driving examiners were relocated to nearby sites resulting in no reduction in testing capacity.
Driving Test Centre | Change | Date |
Barking (Tanner Street) | Closed | 05/01/2026 |
Beverley LGV | Ceased conducting car practical driving tests | 06/05/2026 |
Birmingham (Cocks Moors) | Added | 02/03/2026 |
Culham LGV | Ceased conducting car practical driving tests | 15/10/2025 |
Exeter LGV | Ceased conducting car practical driving tests | 15/10/2025 |
Hither Green (London) | Closed | 03/02/2025 |
Kirkham LGV | Ceased conducting car practical driving tests | 15/10/2025 |
Leeds (Colton Mill) | Added | 23/04/2025 |
Norwich (Jupiter Road) | Ceased conducting car practical driving tests | 07/02/2025 |
Plymouth LGV | Ceased conducting car practical driving tests | 15/10/2025 |
Swindon LGV | Ceased conducting car practical driving tests | 15/10/2025 |
Watnall | Ceased conducting car practical driving tests | 14/08/2025 |
As noted in Answer of 8 June 2026 to Question 4297, some DTCs conduct more than one category of test.
