The question
To ask the Secretary of State for Transport, with reference to the oral evidence of Richard Bruce to the Transport Select Committee on 29 April 2026, what the evidential basis is that between 80 and 90 per cent of electric vehicle owners would recommend an electric vehicle to friends and family; and whether that figure is based on Government commissioned research.

The Government’s EV tracker survey, published in August 2025, shows that the vast majority of EV drivers would recommend their vehicle type to others: 88% of battery electric vehicle drivers and 83% of plug-in hybrid EV drivers said that they were likely to recommend a battery electric vehicle or plug-in hybrid vehicle (respectively) to a friend or colleague.
Other surveys by external bodies show that EV drivers are satisfied. For example, a 2025 Zapmap survey reports that 88% of EV drivers are satisfied; and a survey by Octopus and Autotrader reported 85% satisfaction.
