Navy: Fuels

Asked by Shivani RajaConservativeMinistry of DefenceTabled Answered 16 June 2026UIN 8731

The question

To ask the Secretary of State for Defence, what estimate the Royal Navy has made of the cost of the incremental move to sustainable aviation fuel as set out in the UK Government's SAF mandate.

Answered by Luke Pollard

Royal Navy F-44 military aviation fuel is exempt from the Sustainable Aviation Fuels (SAF) mandate, and no estimates have been made of the cost of transitioning to SAF.

The Ministry of Defence continues to monitor developments in SAF and assess their potential applicability to Defence in support of wider Government sustainability objectives.
