To ask the Secretary of State for Transport, what assessment her Department has made of the adequacy of the availability of grid capacity required to support the electrification of the heavy goods vehicle fleet under a Zero Emission Vehicle mandate.

The availability of grid capacity is an important factor in supporting the electrification of the heavy goods vehicle fleet. The transition to zero emission HGVs is expected to take place over time, allowing both infrastructure and grid capacity to scale alongside demand.
My Department is working closely with DESNZ, Ofgem, the National Energy System Operator (NESO), electricity network operators and transport stakeholders to support a collaborative approach to strategic energy planning and network investment. NESO's strategic energy plans will consider grid capacity and demand, and demand from road transport will be included in these plans.
