The question
To ask the Secretary of State for Education, what assessment she has made of the adequacy of teaching in schools on recognising AI technologies on social media.

The revised relationships, sex, and health education guidance, published July 2025 for teaching from September 2026, will teach children about online harms including deepfakes, AI, the characteristics of social media, the risks associated with over-reliance on social media and where to get help and support.
The government has accepted the recommendations of the independent Curriculum and Assessment Review to ensure that young people become more digitally literate through a refreshed computing curriculum which will build digital confidence from an early age. Through making citizenship compulsory in key stages 1 and 2, we will introduce primary aged children to key content on media literacy and enable young people to critically engage with the messages they encounter through different media channels. A public consultation on the draft national curriculum programmes of study and subject content for the first group of GCSEs will open this September. The revised curriculum will be published next spring, with support to begin first teaching in September 2028.
To support teachers to implement the new curriculum, we will provide time for familiarisation and high-quality digital resources through Oak National Academy. We are also investing in the National Centre for Computing Education, which offers free continuing professional development and teaching resources for teachers of computing, including on AI.
