Amusement Arcades: Coastal Areas
The question
To ask the Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport, what steps her Department is taking to support amusement arcades in coastal towns.
Answered by Ian Murray
The family entertainment sector makes important contributions to local communities, particularly in seaside towns. The sector has seen a number of closures in recent years and as such, the Government is keen to explore ways to support the sector’s sustainable growth.
Stakes and prizes for Category D machines have not changed since 2014, whilst inflation has limited the ability of operators to offer appealing prizes. In October last year, the Government published a consultation on adjustments to stakes and prizes for Category D gaming machines, which are a staple of the family arcade environment. We are currently reviewing the evidence and a Government response will be published in due course.
