Ministry of Defence: Contracts

Asked by Luke AkehurstLabourMinistry of DefenceTabled Answered 19 June 2026UIN 8913

The question

To ask the Secretary of State for Defence, what steps his Department is taking to reduce delays and overspend in Ministry of Defence contracts awarded to foreign contractors.

Answered by Luke Pollard

The MOD reduces delays and overspend in contracts, including those with foreign suppliers, by applying strong, proactive contract management throughout the contract lifecycle. This includes clearly defining performance requirements and KPIs in contracts, regularly monitoring supplier performance through reviews and progress reporting, and identifying early warning signs such as delays or cost pressures.
