The question
To ask the Minister for the Cabinet Office, further to his Department's publication entitled Data on responses to correspondence from MPs and peers, 2025, of 28 May 2025, what assessment he has made of the reason for the decrease in the percentage of response achieved within target response time relative to the (a) 2023 and (b) 2024 statistics; and what steps his Department is taking to improve (i) productivity and (ii) timeliness of Whitehall correspondence replies to (A) MPs and peers and (B) the wider public.

The Government recognises the importance of timely and accurate responses to correspondence. The Cabinet Office sets a maximum target deadline of 20 working days for departments and agencies to respond to correspondence, and it is the responsibility of each department and agency to ensure they have the resources and processes in place to respond to correspondence within this deadline. The Cabinet Office works alongside Government departments to review and update correspondence policy and processes as required.
