Hospitality Industry: South Shropshire

The Government recognises the important role hospitality businesses play both in terms of its economic contribution but also to our culture.

The Chancellor has announced a temporary reduced rate of VAT over the summer holidays on family attractions as well as children’s meals and tickets to the theatre and cinema. This will provide a much-needed boost for families and drive more footfall towards hospitality businesses.

We have also already started the work of reforming our business rates system by introducing new permanently lower multipliers which benefit over 750,000 eligible retail, hospitality and leisure properties.

We announced the first National Licensing Policy Framework and have extended opening hours for venues in England and Wales for the Men’s Football World Cup. We are backing “pavement pints” to make it easier for hospitality businesses to serve food and drink outside and legislating to increase the number of Temporary Events Notices venues can hold.

In addition, we have increased the Hospitality Support Fund to £10m, ended upward-only rent review clauses and new Community Right to Buy legislation will strengthen powers for communities to buy assets like hospitality venues before they are lost.

We will continue to work with the hospitality sector to develop a new cross-government High Streets Strategy to help businesses in South Shropshire, and across the country, to remain the centre of local communities.
