Sustainable Farming Incentive

Asked by Mr Andrew SnowdenConservativeDepartment for Environment, Food and Rural AffairsTabled Answered 19 June 2026UIN 9143

The question

To ask the Secretary of State for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs, what transitional arrangements will be available to farmers with expiring Countryside Stewardship Mid-Tier agreements who are unsuccessful in securing an SFI 2026 agreement.

Answered by Stephen Morgan

Defra intends to support farmers with soon-to-expire Environmental Land Management revenue agreements to access the full SFI26 offer.

The department is developing functionality on the SFI26 application service to allow farmers to apply for land in these agreements before they expire, and we expect this to be in place from the start of the second application window in September 2026.

If the SFI26 budget is fully allocated, it may be possible to apply for future SFI offers. The department will publish more details on SFI27 in due course.
