First-tier Tribunal: Private Rented Housing

Asked by Bambos CharalambousLabourMinistry of JusticeTabled Answered 19 June 2026UIN 9173

The question

To ask the Secretary of State for Justice, what assessment he has made of the impact of the implementation of the Renters Right's Act on the 1st May 2026 on requirements for additional sitting hours for first tier tribunals.

Answered by Sarah Sackman

The Ministry of Justice has and continues to work closely with the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government to assess the impact of the implementation of the Renters’ Rights Act and to ensure that the First-tier Tribunal (Property Chamber) has the capacity to manage demand. This includes provision of sufficient sitting days to deal with increased case volumes.
