Animal Experiments: Sweden
The question
To ask the Secretary of State for Science, Innovation and Technology, pursuant to the answer of 8 June 2026 to Question 3444 on Animal Experiments, what recent engagement has she had with counterparts in Sweden to explore collaboration on the development, validation and uptake of alternative methods.
Answered by Kanishka Narayan
The Government is strengthening international collaboration on the development, validation and uptake of alternative methods. This includes bilateral engagement with Sweden through the UK–Sweden Life Sciences MoU Working Group, which met on 6 May 2026. This forum brings together officials and experts to share best practice and explore opportunities for joint activity in life sciences, including regulatory approaches. The event included experts from the Swedish 3R Centre, the NC3Rs (National Centre for the Replacement, Refinement and Reduction of Animals in Research), the Swedish Research Council and MRC (Medical Research Council). The discussion covered funding, validation and opportunities for collaboration.
