To ask the Secretary of State for Housing, Communities and Local Government, what guidance his Department provides on the role of Standing Advisory Councils for Religious Education in promoting social and community cohesion.

Guidance on the role of SACREs in promoting social and community cohesion can be found in the recent Belong publication ‘Common ground: Building cohesive communities,’ endorsed by the Local Government Association. The National Association of Standing Advisory Councils on Religious Education also provides a handbook for SACRE members which makes reference to how they might promote social cohesion in schools and in the local community.
In the Protecting What Matters publication, government committed to promote the role of SACREs by supporting improved analysis of their annual reports, to better understand the role they play in communities including in relation to cohesion.
