Department for Science, Innovation and Technology: Buildings
The question
To ask the Secretary of State for Science, Innovation and Technology, with reference to the answer of 28 January 2026 to Question 107038 on DSIT: Buildings, what methodology was used to calculate (a) those two sets of figures and (b) HQ office attendance figures on gov.uk.
Answered by Ian Murray
The monthly total number of employees in the HQ building is calculated by using the number of unique individual security pass swipes recorded by the access control system.
The monthly capacity of the HQ building in each of those months for 22 Whitehall is calculated by the number of available individual IT-enabled work settings in the building and multiplying that by the number of working days in each month.
The HQ office attendance figures on GOV.UK are calculated using the total number of unique individual security pass swipes recorded by the access control system in the quarter as a percentage of the total number of available individual IT-enabled work settings in the building in each month of the quarter.
