AI Economics Institute: Finance

Asked by Mike WoodConservativeTreasuryTabled Answered 22 June 2026UIN 9336

The question

To ask the Chancellor of the Exchequer, with reference to the news story entitled Chancellor’s growth plan sets key principles for UK-EU alignment, of 17 March 2026, what the budget will be of the AI Economics Institute; and whether it will be established as an Arm's Length Body.

Answered by Lucy Rigby

The AI economics Institute will be funded from the Department for Science, Innovation and Technology's existing R&D budget. The exact figure will be refined alongside the research scope of the institute. The Institute has been established as a joint research unit between His Majesty's Treasury and the Department for Science, Innovation and Technology, not an Arms Length Body.
