The Ministry of Defence assesses imports and procurement contracts by examining whether they create critical dependencies, single points of failure or reliance on external approval regimes. It considers the impact of disruption on the continuity of military operations, and whether foreign control, export restrictions or limited access to technical data could constrain the UK’s ability to deploy, sustain or modify capability independently.
