Children in Care: Lancashire

Asked by Mr Andrew SnowdenConservativeDepartment for EducationTabled Answered 22 June 2026UIN 9455

The question

To ask the Secretary of State for Education, how many children in Lancashire are in a residential children's home over 20 miles from their family home.

Answered by Josh MacAlister

The department does not hold information on the total number of children placed in a residential home in Lancashire. We do hold information on the number of children who are looked after by placement type.

On 31 March 2025, the number of children looked after who were placed in secure homes and children’s homes in Lancashire and who were over 20 miles from their family home was 331. This figure excludes unaccompanied asylum-seeking children and children looked after under a series of short-term placements.
