Unfair Practices: Newton Abbot
The question
To ask the Secretary of State for Business and Trade, what steps he is taking to tackle rogue builders and traders in Newton Abbot constituency.
Answered by Kate Dearden
This government is committed to protecting consumers from rogue traders. Consumer legislation already sets out the standards consumers can expect when a trader supplies goods and services, including building work, as well as remedies if these rights are breached.
TrustMark, sponsored by the Department and licenced by the Government, is the Government Endorsed Quality Scheme that covers work a consumer chooses to have carried out in or around their home. In addition, the Building Safety Act 2022 has introduced competence requirements for both individuals and businesses working in the built environment.
