Equality and Human Rights Commission: Codes of Practice

Asked by Mike WoodConservativeWomen and EqualitiesTabled Answered 30 June 2026UIN 9612

The question

To ask the Minister for Women and Equalities, with reference to the Equality Act 2010: Draft Code of Practice for services, public functions and associations, 2026, published on 21 May 2026, if she will outline the changes that the Government requested to be made to the draft produced by the Equality and Human Rights Commission.

Answered by Olivia Bailey

We followed a very specific process outlined in the Equality Act 2006. Following the For Women Scotland ruling, the EHRC submitted a draft to us in September 2025. EHRC continued to work on it and submitted an updated version in April 2026. They made the decision to amend the draft Code following feedback, consultation responses and legal advice. Our focus has always been to make sure that organisations have the guidance they need, and that it is clear and practical.
