Public Service Broadcasting: Streaming

Asked by Jeff SmithLabourDepartment for Culture, Media and SportTabled Answered 22 June 2026UIN 9619

The question

To ask the Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport, what steps she is taking to introduce regulation to ensure the (a) prominence of UK public service broadcaster content on YouTube and other major Video Sharing Platforms and (b) distribution of that content on equitable commercial terms.

Answered by Ian Murray

The Department has held a series of Ministerial roundtables with the public service media providers and video sharing platforms to encourage industry led voluntary partnerships ensuring public service media content is made prominent, and on fair terms. While our strong preference is for voluntary agreements, and we are undertaking work to promote these, if we need to legislate we will.
