Social Media: Children
The question
To ask the Secretary of State for Science, Innovation and Technology, whether she will conduct and publish a Data Protection Impact Assessment and any other relevant impact assessments before the social ban for under 16s comes into force.
Answered by Kanishka Narayan
We will not be conducting a Data Protection Impact Assessment as part of making regulations for the social media ban, since we will not be processing any personal data in the course of that work. We will conduct and publish other relevant impact assessments where relevant.
The UK has strong data protection laws, and these apply to age assurance providers, ensuring that personal data is processed lawfully, fairly and securely.
