Roads: Repairs and Maintenance

To ask the Secretary of State for Transport, with reference to her Department's press release entitled How well does your council fix potholes? Tough new guidance for councils will end patch-up fixes and lead to smoother, safer journeys, published on 9 June 2026, what her planned timetable is for (a0 reviewing the effectiveness of the new guidance and (b) publishing the results.

Local highway authorities are required to publish their Local Highways Maintenance Transparency Reports on their websites by 10 September 2026.
The Department will use the information and supporting evidence provided in these reports to inform its assessment of local highway authorities’ maintenance activity. This will support decisions on eligibility for highways maintenance incentive funding for 2026‑27, with payments made later in the financial year in line with the published funding framework.
The Department will also use this information to update the annual road maintenance performance ratings for local highway authorities, which were first published in January 2026.
